Professional Experiences

Program Assistant: Athens Community Council on Aging, The Center for Active Living.

In this role, I support the development and delivery of wellness, enrichment, and social engagement programs designed to promote healthy aging in older adults across Athens-Clarke County. I assist staff with coordinating daily activities, evidence-based workshops, and community events that enhance physical functioning, cognitive stimulation, emotional well-being, and social connection, which are key determinants of healthy aging.

My responsibilities include greeting and checking in participants, processing payments, maintaining accurate attendance and program records, and ensuring that all procedures align with organizational policies and safety standards. Through regular interaction with older adults, I have gained firsthand experience with the diverse needs, interests, and abilities of aging populations. This work has strengthened my commitment to gerontology, person-centered programming, and creating accessible environments that support independence, dignity, and quality of life.

I am currently working on creating programs that members are interested in, like art and baking, while also assisting in operations for Turkeypalooza and Be a Santa to a Senior!

Patient Transporter: Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center, Radiology Support Services

In this position, I assist with patient mobility and transport throughout the hospital, ensuring safe and comfortable transitions to and from diagnostic imaging procedures. I frequently work with older adults and individuals with mobility limitations, which has deepened my understanding of the physical, cognitive, and emotional considerations involved in geriatric care.

By coordinating closely with radiology technologists and nursing staff, I help reduce delays, maintain smooth patient flow, and improve overall efficiency within a fast-paced clinical setting. My role requires strong communication skills, sensitivity to patient needs, and an ability to navigate clinical systems effectively. This experience has strengthened my knowledge of hospital operations and increased my interest in improving patient-centered care in medical environments, particularly for aging populations.

To me, the most fulfilling aspect of my job is the countless conversations I have with patients. Through them, I have learned so much about the healthcare system, but also their unique stories and how aging looks different for each person.

Fontaine Peer Educator: University Health Center, The Fontaine Center

As a Fontaine Peer Educator, I play an active role in advancing campus-wide health promotion efforts related to violence prevention, sexual health, and substance use. I lead outreach initiatives that increase student awareness of available resources, evidence-based prevention strategies, and pathways to supportive care.

Through facilitating peer-to-peer discussions, I promote open dialogue on sensitive topics, deliver accurate and inclusive health education, and foster a culture of safety and well-being. I collaborate with students, staff, and campus partners to plan outreach events that empower individuals to make informed health decisions. My work contributes to the prevention of interpersonal violence, reduction of high-risk behaviors, and strengthening of community resilience—foundational principles of population health.

In my brief time as an FPE, I created a new campaign (No Tricks, Just Treats) to spread awareness and resources on relationship and sexual violence around Halloween. This role allows me to use what I have learned about research and program planning in my Health Promotion curriculum. I plan on continuing to research and address gaps in resources on UGA’s campus to support our student population more effectively.

Clinical Intern: Athens Area Pediatrics

During this clinical internship, I assisted with essential patient support tasks, including performing temperature checks, recording height and weight measurements, and ensuring exam rooms met sanitation and safety standards. I also organized patient charts and supported healthcare providers in preparing for appointments.

This early exposure introduced me to the importance of preventive care, accurate clinical documentation, and compassionate patient interaction. Working with children and families helped me understand how health behaviors and environmental conditions shape long-term developmental and health outcomes. This foundation has informed my interest in health promotion across the lifespan and the life-course approach to public health.
